*Thank you to William Morrow for letting me review this novel.
“The City of Dreaming Spires,” I murmur to myself.
“Indeed it is,” Gavin says in my ear. I’d forgotten he was still on the line.
That’s what they call Oxford. A title well deserved. Because that means, before it was my dream or Seventeen magazine girl’s dream, it was someone else’s dream as well.
After reading Seventeen magazine at a young age, Ella Durran decided that one day she will study at Oxford. When she is 24, she is finally given the opportunity to study in England on a Rhodes Scholarship and is offered a major position in a political star’s presidential campaign.
She was promised to work remotely and then go back to DC at the end of the year. This means she is able to enjoy Oxford on her own terms. Then of course the arrogant local enters the picture and his car ruins her outfit and her first day in England.
When she goes to her English literature class, she realizes the professor is the arrogant jerk, Jamie Davenport. She is now questioning if coming to Oxford was the right thing to do. But after having a drink with Jamie, they develop a connection that is undeniable. What starts as a casual relationship turns into something much deeper until Ella learns about Jamie’s secret.
Ella now has to make an unimaginable decision: leave Jamie and go to DC to continue her political aspirations or stay with him during a trial that they aren’t prepared for.
I LOVE THIS ROMANCE. What a gem of a novel. Jamie and Ella’s relationship is pure and steamy, and that’s how I like it. You fall in love with both of these characters and hope throughout the book they stay together. It will tug at your heartstrings more than once.
This is perfect for anyone who loves a great Hallmark story. I cannot express how much this romance moved me. I had to really take time and think about what all went down in this book. Julia Whelan is the next romance author that everyone will be talking about.
