On the island of Fennbirn, three triplets have been brought into this world. They are three potential queens who possess sacred magic. And they are all equal heirs to the throne. Which none have rightfully earned yet.
Mirabella is able to snap her fingers and light a fire or create a storm. She is the voracious one that has the power of elements.
Katharine is able to ingest any type of poisons and it would not affect her one bit. She is considered to be the poisoner.
Arsinoe is able to grow the most beautiful flower and also be able to tame the deadliest lion. She is the naturalist.
All three sisters cannot be the Queen of Fennbirn. Only one can. So they have to fight till the death to earn it. And the fight begins when the girls turn sixteen years old.
WHY HAVE I WAITED SO LONG TO START THIS?! This is everything I have wanted in a fantasy young adult novel. It has love, it has adventure, it has danger. If you think you know how this book is going to turn out, you will be wrong. Kendare Blake did an excellent job with navigating how each sister is going to react once they turn sixteen. I ended up rooting for each sister because who wants to be killed by their sisters at sixteen? I mean no rational human being wants that to happen. But they are thrown into this situation that they have no control over. But each of them realizes what they need to do to gain the crown, and it’s pretty emotional.
I cannot recommend this enough to any fantasy lover! I am not the biggest fantasy fan, but this exceeded my expectations. Now I need to read the rest of the series!
